Inauguration of the Adastra supercomputer at CINES

Acquired by France via GENCI in 2022, the Adastra supercomputer will be inaugurated on May 4 at CINES in Montpellier. This new instrument represents a major technological asset for French research. With a computing capacity of 74 PFlops[1]/s, it is one of the most powerful in Europe.

28 April 2023

This new state-of-the-art supercomputer, which takes its name from the Latin locution "Ad astra per aspera" (translated as "By arduous paths to the stars"), is now installed and made available by GENCI and CINES to the academic and industrial scientific communities as part of open research.

The inauguration of Adastra will start at 10:30 a.m. on May 4, on the CINES premises in Montpellier. It will take place in the presence of elected officials, government representatives, scientists, higher education and research professionals, and representatives of the economic sector. It will begin with an unveiling of Adastra, a tour of the machine room and will be followed at 2pm by a conference.

[1] PFlop/s: unit of measurement of computer computing power, 1 PFlop/s corresponds to 1 million billion computing operations per second
