HPC to insure against climate risks

This Frenchinsurtech is specialized in parametric insurance. Using the resources of the HJean Zay supercomputer of GENCI hosted and operated at the IDRIS, it puts artificial intelligence (AI) at the service of climate risk anticipation.

One thing is clear: extreme fires are exacerbated by climate change. This environmental tragedy is coupled with a very heavy economic and insurance risk: many insurance companies are refusing to underwrite policies, due to the effects of climate change, which have increased the uncertainty and frequency of forest fires.

The methodology and tools deployed by this startup from the French Tech has led it to run complex physical models simulating fire risk and leading to a better understanding of the influence of climate change on this phenomenon. In addition, these simulations also provide a better quantification of the risk for the insurer to cope with this growing risk.

This has been made possible in particular by obtaining more than one million hours of calculation in 2022.
